You need not have invented corruption to be corrupt

“I did not invent corruption. I walked into it. Perhaps my first fault was in having accepted aspects of it as a fact of life.” — Angie Reyes. Sounds like someone deep into the “esprit de corps” within the high echelons of the military yet cognizant of the corrupt goings-on around him and, finally, allowing that to swallow him up “accepting aspects of it as a fact of life.” Having uttered those telling words, his sense of “omerta” would still prevent him from squealing on his fellow officers, while acknowledging the existence of corruption in the AFP. That is acceptable within a Mafia organization whose main activity is already illegal with no pretense about it. But the AFP is precisely what its name is: “…of the Philippines;”  not “of a family” or “of a few officers”  or “of a President.”
